Hi I’m Jen, The Trusted Traveller. Welcome to my site!
Born and raised in beautiful Sydney, Australia (where I live now). I am 30 years old and live with my husband of 7 years Mick. I have a 9 to 5 job in admin which isn’t as fulfilling as I would like but it does bring in the money I need to travel and live comfortably. Besides travel, my life’s loves are shopping (especially for shoes of which I have a lot of), theatre especially musicals and comedy, food and cooking plus I have a bit of an obsession with Michael Buble.
My love of travel began in 2008 when my sister and a few of my friends were travelling around Europe. Pictures and stories were filtering back to me and what caught my interest was the jaw dropping scenery and fun times they were experiencing. They looked so carefree and relaxed, as though they were having the time of their lives.
Up to this point I had never really thought I wanted to travel other than the odd holiday in Australia or close by every year. I was lucky as a kid with my family travelling more often than most families. My Dad loves a driving holiday and we would set off most school holidays for places like Adelaide, Queensland and the New South Wales north coast town of Nambucca Heads where my Nan lives.
So after seeing and hearing how great my sister and friends travels were I began researching the places they visited and building a list of places I wanted to see in Europe. I was looking at tours and independent travel options, sights and all the different sorts of accommodation available. I became obsessed and after a few months of researching Mick and I decided we had to travel to Europe.
Saving every dollar we could over the next 12-18 months and even selling our house, we saved up enough money for a six week independent trip across Europe. I planned (probably a bit too much) and booked everything myself on the internet with a bit of advise here and there from friends and family. It became my number one thing to do in my spare time.
Our trip began in Moscow and from there we travelled by train all of the way to London stopping in Krakow, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Bruges and Paris. We had an incredible time full of ups and downs and first time traveller mistakes which looking back now I wouldn’t change. For the first time in my life I experienced the feeling of total freedom.
So from that first trip in 2010 until now, Mick and I have travelled to over 20 countries on 4 continents including 18 months living in the incredible city of London. My knowledge of these countries and the rest of the world has grown more with every trip. I spend a lot of my free time researching destinations on my bucket list (basically a list of most countries in the world). My knowledge of every corner of the world is extensive and if I don’t know something I know where to find it now.
One of the reasons I never thought of travelling outside of Australia before 2008 was because I have a fear of flying. But what gets me through every flight is the thought of discovering a new destination and the feeling of freedom that travelling gives me. I can’t imagine my life any other way now and I encourage everyone who will listen to get out there and explore this incredible world we live in regardless of your fears.
I have started this site so I can share my knowledge and experiences in the hope that I can inspire you just like I was inspired back in 2008.
I hope you enjoy my site and are inspired by my journey as I continue to discover all corners of this incredible and diverse world we live in.
